WABAM. Ordered an airbrush compressor and it’s here. www.harborfreight.com Really impressed with the service. They say it takes 7-10 business days to ship their products out. To my surprise, it got here in 3 days. Very happy with this product. This may be most likely because I’m a novice when it comes to airbrushing, but hey, it works well and that’s what I needed. Stay tuned! ~Shadow

So, after lounging around for a few days, I decided to proceed to the completion of T-Minus-5. However, I didn’t really do much at all. I made him look slightly more proportional, smoothed the surface to give it a shiny look, and that’s pretty much it. Most of the details in the original blueprint of this particular character will probably be left out considering that they don’t really fit with the whole 3D image of this mask. Plus, the original character’s mask was not exactly wearable. Over all, he came out pretty decent! If I do anything in correlation to the original character, I will most likely be painting it on. Like the 5′s on the forehead and the 5′s near the eye slits, and so on. I will most likely be making another T-Minus-5 mask later down the road when I’m more experienced with fine detail. For now, this mask will suffice. IN OTHER NEWS: Underbite came out alright and I’ll probably use him in another project. I might mount him on my wall or something. I wouldn’t want the latex to go to waste. The seam line of the most recent “ThE HoRRoR” copy was sadly not what I expected to be. We’re human, we make mistakes. So don’t make the mistake I did. If you have a bad seam-line, well then better luck next time because the “seam line trick” will just make it worse. I’ll use that particular copy as a canvas to practice airbrushing. Next mask coming up is: Ghost. HOWEVER, I do not possess the materials to make this mask at this time, so I may make a “mini mask” in

I got hired to make the masks for St. Joseph’s University’s Phantom of the Opera. As they prepared for tech, they came back and asked me to create his latex makeup appliance also. I had very little time to make this, so I had to do it with slip cast liquid latex. Foam latex would have made a much better appliance, but I needed to pop these out in just a couple of days. In this video you see me sculpting the appliance, casting the negative mold in plaster, pouring the slip latex, removing the pull, trimming the flashing, mixing the color and painting it using the same Kryolan Aquacolor makeup the actor would apply to the rest of his face for a seamless blend between the appliance and his skin. Kryolan Aquacolor is great for latex because there is no change in pigmentation from latex to skin. Cream based makeups need to be applied to latex that has been sealed with castor oil so the pigment will blend. There’s no need to seal the latex when using Kryolan Aquacolor, which can also be diluted to work through an airbrush. If you’d like any custom made masks, makeup appliances, puppets, or just about anything else email me at jay@tribeoffools.org so we can talk about your project. The music I used is The Grudge by Tool from their album Lateralus. If you don’t have it yet (and I don’t know why you wouldn’t) you need to buy it here: www.amazon.com

Music ———————- Song: Take this Life – Artist: In Flames – ————— Now that my armature is good to go, thought I’d start sculpting abomination. Already, in the early stages of this sculpt, I can tell this is going to be a wicked mask. On a completely different note, College is pretty damn awesome! My sculpting teacher unfortunately had no intentions to use clay in any of our projects. We’re working with stone carvings, as well as plaster. We’re doing metal crafting, welding, and those sorts of things as well. I may not be able to improve in the field of mask making, but I get to learn many different mediums! It’s pretty exciting. Back to the mask, I haven’t the slightest clue when It’ll be done. I don’t especially want to rush this mask either. It seems every single one of my masks, in the past, has been rushed. I might just take it slow with this one. I’ll update my progress in a day or two, and then I won’t update again until it’s done. Hopefully, he’ll come out great! Stay tuned! ~Shadow

The question that I ask everyone including myself is; When your time is up, would you welcome death because you have lived a happy life doing everything you always wanted to do? Or would you ask death for more time to spare? This question is one of those critical ones. We have to learn to love one another and cherish everyday as if it’s your last. And when you do, death won’t be a fear to you in the end. For a person like me, I want to become successful with my art in the future and have a family for myself. I got hired to make the mask for St. Joseph’s University’s upcoming production of The Phantom of the Opera. They wanted two (one for a back up). The first shots are of the sculpt I did in clay on the actor’s positive. I unfortunately didn’t record the slush-casting of the mask with neoprene. I’ll do that next time. This video shows some trimming, but mostly airbrushing the paint job. This mask is very deceptive. Commonly people think it’s a simple white mask, but if there are not shadows and highlights in the paint, the character will disappear under stage lights. If you’d like any custom made masks, email me at jay@tribeoffools.org and we can talk about your project. The music I used is Midlake. You need to buy their album here: midlake.bigcartel.com They are awesome.
